Nearly Half of U.S. Companies Use Staffing Firms to Find IT Talent

With the tech sector unemployment rate at 2.6 percent, the pool of skilled talent is smaller than ever. IT roles tend to remain some of the most difficult positions to fill. According to a recent study it-unemployment-by-job_july-2016from TechServe Alliance, nearly half of hiring organizations reported using a staffing firm as part of their strategy to find quality IT talent.

It’s important to cast a wide net, leveraging multiple resources to find and attract top IT professionals. Technical staffing firms specialize in building and nurturing this pool of talent and can be a valuable resource.

Additionally, there is a trend of more and more employers exploring a hybrid workforce, which includes both IT contractors, freelancers and permanent staff. According to a study conducted by Experis, two-thirds of U.S. Companies turn to contractors to overcome talent shortages and improve workforce flexibility. Just 41 percent say they rely solely on permanent IT staff.

Because skill sets are constantly evolving, it can be a real challenge to keep up. While most IT skill sets are in demand, they are some positions that are particularly hard to fill.  Some of the most in-demand skills include programming, project management, Big Data/Analytics & security. See all of the top skills tracked to be the most in-demand this year, according to Computerworld.

According to a new survey conducted by Modis, one-third (32 percent) of tech employers would offer a 10-15 percent salary increase in order to attract top talent.

There are many benefits of using contract work as a strategy to better position your workforce – flexibility, cost-effectiveness, access to specialized expertise and scalability, just to name a few. See our article 5 Benefits of IT Staff Augmentation.
